Models from Smeaton and Napoleons Primary Schools are on display in the foyer of the DEECD Regional Office, 109 Armstrong Street Ballarat 17 November - 17 december.

The Smeaton kids are enjoying the inspirational direction of Architect Eve Strano. They have designed a fantasy cubby that occupies three levels within a huge gum tree that stands near the playground.
Every child at the school from prep - year six is involved in the construction of their model. One group is creating the tree (it is adorned with multi-coloured pipe cleaners), one group is creating the semi circular room that sits at the base of the tree, another group is carefully making the small pod-like spaces that hang from the large main branches. Also being created are rope ladders that string between the branches from pod to pod.
This is a place that I'd love to explore - Smeaton Primary you are an inspiration!

Smeaton Primary School students have just completed stage one of their project with the construction of their models, which was done with their buddy partners. They showed great imagination and used a number of the concepts introduced by our architect Eve Strano. Some of this creativity and design may have extended beyond the realms of sustainability, however they had great fun in sketching their designs and constructing their models! Eve will now put some plans in place for the design and construction of our larger school model, incorporating various aspects from each of the student's own designs. We will continue to focus on sustainability this term revising the work undertaken by Eve so far. Then in Term three, we will construct our larger class model while some students work on our video of the project and others on collages depicting the final product.
