I had a wonderful drive to Murtoa last week - not only did I discover THE GIANT KOALA at Dadswells Bridge (made famous in the Telstra Big Pond ad on TV) but I drove through some stunning countryside. The Wimmera has had some good soaking rain over the past couple of weeks and the paddocks are green.
My visit to Our Lady Help of Christians School coincided with World Environment Day (a very nice coincidence) and I arrived to find a spectacular Eco-Cubby model proudly on display and waiting for Chris’s (the architect) feedback.
Back in April, Karen and Chris from MA Architects first visited the school and engaged the class in a two-day sustainable design workshop - since then the children have been busy with their investigations. The school has quite a lot of recycled materials on site for use in the cubby as well as hundreds of old tyres. These materials have guided the cubby’s design.
The class has developed a large model as well as plan drawings of their design including a floor plan, a front view, a side view and a cross section. Chris the architect will use these to develop the final design drawings on the computer. We look forward to seeing the next phase of Eco-Cubby at Murtoa.

These old concrete pipes will be used as water tanks for the cubby

There is a 'Frog Heaven' in the school grounds as well as the gorgeous bird houses below...
